Tory parliamentary hopeful Damian Collins (left) said he was backing home grown food and farming in East Kent during a visit to the first Romney Marsh Farmers Market, at Haguelands Farm, Dymchurch on Sunday (17 February).

The prospective Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Folkestone and Hythe said:"One of the best ways we can support home grown food and farming in East Kent is by supporting our farmers markets.

"Farming and the rural way of life have suffered greatly in recent years, but every pound spent in local markets can be worth double that for the for local producers who trade there. That's why I was pleased to support the first regular meeting of the Romney Marsh Farmers Market.

"Farmers markets are not only good for the local economy, but also the local environment. Local food at these markets doesn't travel all around the country, before we buy it.

"And they also sell some fantastic, top quality seasonal produce."
