Night-time road closure a "pointless waste of time"

The night-time ban on cars accessing parts of Sandgate Road in Folkestone has been  described as a "pointless waste of time"

The ban, which is in place between 8pm and 4am, was designed to stop so-called boy-racers from using Sandgate Road as a racing circuit but local Lib Dem campaigner Gary Fuller who made the remark has been critical of the ban after watching cars breaking the rules.

Gary said: "Drivers have been flaunting the ban because it is not being policed, and who can blame them? This ban targets everyone, regardless of their reasons for using the road."

"Increasing the number of police officers in and around the local area at night would be a far more effective way of tackling the problem and would have the added bonus of reducing the levels of anti-social behaviour in central Folkestone, which currently leaves many local residents too fearful to walk the streets at night".
