Tit Bits

Time will tell if the area returns to its independent roots...

I'm not fully au fait with the local political history of the district but as I understand it, up to recently many of the local villages including North Downs East area have been the bastions of the Independents.

The emergence of a team of candidates under the Shepway Independents banner could replace the incumbent councillors in the May District Council elections at a stroke, if there is an independent revival and the voters are ready for change, but Shepway's track record could turn out to be the group's biggest vote winner.

Already they are fielding a full team to fight for the Hawkinge and Swingfield(North Downs East) seats but they need to convince the electorate they have answers to the concerns of residents.

Time will tell if the area returns to its independent roots.

2centimetres of snow, and schools are talking about closing and sending their pupils home.  There are according to reports some parents ready to sue schools for their loss of earnings when they have to take time off from work to look after their children.

Apart from the time lost in the classroom, what is the cost?

I remember Mother Mouth packing me off to school with a foot of snow on the ground (30centmetres in new money) and everyone just got on with it. There were no namby-pamby bureaucrats telling schools to shut up shop and the school playgrounds were full of smiling happy children enjoying the winter ice and snow.

What on earth do they do in Sweden or Norway. Do the children ever go to school in the winter? Of course they do. Are we Brits wimps or is it just that the bureaucrats think we are?

Isn't it time we regained our own destinies and let the nanny state pendulum swing back before the cotton wool we are wrapped in suffocates us all?
