The community safety charity, Kent People’s Trust has awarded nearly £14,000 of funding to Kent community groups, helping young and elderly people locally and across the county.

In Shepway and Dover, the New Romney Counselling Service, which provides low cost counselling in the Romney Marsh area received a grant to work with young people who have experienced domestic abuse.

The Salvation Army in Folkestone will use their small grant to buy play equipment for its youth clubs.

Gillian Ford, Chair of the Kent People’s Trust commented: ‘It’s really important for the well-being of the whole community that we give our young people outlets for their energy, and places to go where they can be themselves.’

Residents of Dover will soon benefit from another grant, this time to the Anne Peaker Centre for Arts in Criminal Justice, who will be using their grant to transform areas of wasteland in the St Radigund’s area of the town. Young people in the area will be helping to design and improve the public spaces alongside artists, gardeners and older residents.
