Hawkinge beat goes on

News

Following our story which stated that PC Trevor Moody was leaving Hawkinge to take up the job of neighbourhood policing officer for Elham and Stelling Minnis, Folkestone police have issued a statement to clarify their position.

They state: "PC Moody has not been removed from Hawkinge as such. He has not been on operational duty for several weeks and is currently on light duties which is why he has not been seen.

"His area of responsibility includes not only Hawkinge but also out lying areas such as Elham and Stelling Minnis and he is currently spending time on patrol there.

"As you are no doubt aware, resources (officers) are sent to where they are most needed. Hawkinge continues to receive police cover with regular patrols from the response team, and if necessary, PC Moody will assist.

"The first point of call for residents in Hawkinge should be PCSO Sarah Wallace who can be contacted on 07772 226229. To report anti-social behaviour, nuisance youths and any other issues during the evening and night time, residents should contact the control room on 01303 850055, as usual."

Dear Ed,

I truly hope that PC Moody is not ill (the reference to light duties). However, it really makes sense doesn't it? Hawkinge has probably tripled in size in the last few years - I don't see those sort of increases in the Elham area.

Yours as grumpily as ever,

Lazarus
