An investigation is to be launched after a cross channel ferry crashed into the Prince of Wales Pier in Dover.

Sailings from Dover to Boulogne were suspended after the SpeedFerries vessel SpeedOne collided with the pier just before 8.00pm on Friday (28 December).

Passengers on the catamaran, had all left the craft after its final sailing and it was being moved into its berthing position when the accident happened.

A spokeswoman said some water got on board, but no crew members were hurt.

A small hole has been repaired, but the vessel must be inspected before it can be allowed to sail again.

The SpeedFerries spokeswoman said: "She was just moving across [the harbour] to berth up for the night, and she scratched along the side of the Prince of Wales Pier.

"Some water was taken on board but it was dealt with by our own engineers.

"There was a small puncture hole on the left-hand side which has already been repaired.

"We're now awaiting the authorities to inspect her before she can be operational again."

The spokeswoman advised any travellers already booked to check for updates.
