Band D homeowners in Hawkinge will be paying an extra 25% in Parish Tax for 2008/2009, it was agreed last night at the December parish council meeting (12 December).

The new rate will be £32.19, an increase of £6.49 over this year's £25.70 figure, but the total precept will be almost double from £40,500 to £77,252 for the next financial year.

In the Hawkinge Parish Council Budget and Precept report, it states that it must make provision for reserves, and to cover unforeseen expenditure and possible emergencies.

Figures indicating the estimated total of expenditure and income for this year (2007/2008) show the  precept will be exceeded by £18,000.

The estimate for next year's budget of £77,252 however, equates to the amount of the precept set by councillors for 2008/2009.
