There is to be no election for the vacant seats on Hawkinge Parish Council after just two hopefuls put their names forward for the pair of seats up for grabs.

Prospective councillors Patricia Meloy and Colin Tearle were the only candidates to lodge their applications by the closing date (10 December).

They will however, not be declared as winners of the Un-Contested Election until midday on Friday (14 December).

Election rules allow the candidates to withdraw from the contest at any time up to 12 noon on that day.

The election was brought about by the resignation of parish councillors, Keven Avery and Jeanne James in October.
