Shepway District Council (SDC) spent £169,765 more on parking enforcement than they received for parking fines, it was revealed in Kent County Council's (KCC) report for 2006-2007.

Shepway had an income of £301,607 but spent £461,372 in administration.

The KCC Parking Management in Kent Annual Report showed Shepway having the biggest deficit of all Kent councils.

Dover District Council were in credit to the tune of £57,314, along with Swale, Gravesham, Ashford and Tunbridge Wells who all managed to stay in the black.

But the remaining Kent councils all had deficits and dragged the overall KCC figures down to show a countywide deficit of £298,076.

The total amount collected by Kent councils was £5,891,183 but they managed to spend £6,189,260 administering parking management.
