I'd like to make it clear that although I spoke in favour of the new Health Centre at the Development Control Committee meeting I did so on behalf of all three of the Hawkinge (North Downs East) district councillors - David Godfrey, Stuart Peall and Roger Hill.

All four of us supported the proposed site and excellent design and as the other three were unable to make the meeting I was happy to speak for all of us. In the event, Stuart Peall was also able to attend the meeting to show his support.

Shepway does not have a big supply of Employment Land and we should be careful not to compromise the development of jobs. However, the search for a suitable site has gone on for several years and two previous planning applications had been turned down. The report that went to Development Control made it quite clear that other suggested sites in Hawkinge were unsuitable or unavailable.

I've asked the developer to keep me up to date with progress and I will pass on news on this long awaited and much welcome Health Centre.

It was reported that the new Hawkinge Health Centre was given the go ahead in November 2007. Living, as I do, close to the site I've seen little progress to date. Are the plans moving ahead ?
