Hit-and-run death appeal

A week on from a hit-and-run crash near Lydden, which left a mother-of-five dead, the family have appealed to witnesses to help police trace the lorry that failed to stop.

Julia White, 42, from Ramsgate, died in the crash.

One of her sons and his friend were badly injured.

The crash happened on the A2 near Lydden last Friday (19 October). The lorry was thought to have been heading towards Canterbury.

Acting Sgt Glen Braidwood said: "We know Mrs White was a passenger in a vehicle (a red Ford Escort) which was in collision with a large goods vehicle that didn't remain at the scene.

"To leave a car in that condition without checking on the people inside strikes me as highly callous.

"I'm actually, despite my years of service, quite shocked that somebody could do that to another human being.

"We now need to trace any witnesses we haven't spoken to so far."

Sgt. Braidwood said the lorry had a fabric or curtain-sided trailer, which he added would have suffered damage to its front nearside or offside.
