Following the recent resignation of two councillors, there are Casual Vacancies for the office of two councillors on Hawkinge Parish Council.

If fewer than 10 electors write to Shepway Council requesting an election within 14 days* of the official notice of the vacancies (issued 18 October), the Parish council can fill the vacancies by co-opting members, and no voting will take place.

However should residents prefer to vote for parish council members and enough candidates put their names forward, there is an opportunity for villagers to force an election.

The Local Government Act requires 10 electors to write to the Chief Executive of Shepway District Council, to petition for an election to be held.
