Dave the dolphin could die after part of its tail was reportedly sliced off by a speedboat.

Tony Woodley, of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue, said the dolphin's rapport with seaside visitors has been its undoing.

There are fears the fin could become infected.

Marine medical experts say that Dave's injury is the equivalent of a human losing a foot.

Dave appeared off the Folkestone coast last year.

It was reported that earlier in the year, a dolphin swimming off Portsmouth died after being run over by a tug.
