Local water company sold in £4bn deal

The utility company responsible for water and sewage services to local residents is to be sold.

Southern Water supplies more than two million people across Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight has been sold in a deal valuing the business at £4.2 billion.

It is to be bought by a consortium led by investment bank JP Morgan.

The Southern Water business is the seventh largest water and sewage company in England and Wales.
