Kent Police said it was investigating the cause of a blaze, which was currently being treated as suspicious, at a furniture warehouse in Lydd on Friday morning (5 January).

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to the site at Dengemarsh Road at 6.20am where they found a large warehouse burning fiercely.

Twelve pumps from across the county, a height vehicle and a water unit were sent to the scene and around 90 firefighters battled to stop the blaze spreading to other industrial units in the area. 

Propane cylinders were found at the site but they have now been removed. Nearby homes have not been affected. 

East Division area manager Steve Griffiths said: "It's been a fairly long and difficult job... but the crews have worked extremely hard to keep it contained to one end of the building." 

The blaze is now under control but it’s expected that crews will remain in the area for some hours.
