Residents in Hawkinge are getting the chance to have their valuable Christmas presents security marked next weekend.

Kent Police is taking part in the Hawkinge Community Safety Day, at Hawkinge Community Centre from 11.00 am to 2.00 pm on Saturday 13 January.

The event has been organised by KCC Community Warden Tanya Clark and will include displays and demonstrations designed to encourage people to make 2007 healthy, happy and safe.

A number of local organisations are taking part including Shepway Council, the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, Home Safe, Kent Crimestoppers, Help the Aged, and the NHS.

Hawkinge Neighbourhood PC Trevor Moody will have a stand with crime reduction leaflets and free goodies and will also be there to listen to concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour and to give advice.

He will be able to security mark any property such as cycles, sat navs, MP3 players, mobile phones, and do on that people bring along and will also have free security marking packs to give away.

Visitors to the Safety Day can also find out about the Kent Police Nominated Neighbour scheme, designed to protect elderly and vulnerable residents from bogus callers.

Neighbourhood Watch will have a stand with details of how residents can work together to make their area safer.

The Hawkinge Flyers, an American style Majorette troupe will open the event at 11.00 am.

PC Moody said: “This is something for all ages and I look forward to meeting people from not only Hawkinge, but the wider community as well.”

Further information about the Hawkinge Community Safety Day is available from KCC Warden Tanya Clark on 07811 271303 or PC Trevor Moody on 07980 770583.
