Support for Folkestone's step lift carriage

Dear Ed,

The vintage steam locomotive, the Golden Arrow, arrived at Folkestone harbour on Saturday (27 January) for the very last time bringing six or seven vintage carriages, all completely full of railway buffs.

But this was not the only historic railway machinery on view for the hundreds of spectators who turned out on this momentous day.

The 1890 Leas lift step carriage restoration team were also quite visible to all present, displaying the dilapidated step lift carriage appeal board awaiting renovation.

The Golden Arrow’s engineer, boiler man and stokers, without hesitation, knowing how hard fund raising can be to renovate historic railway equipment, willingly hoisted the step lift appeal board above the front of the steam engine for two dozen freelance photographers present to capture the moment.

Yours respectfully,

Robert Mouland (on behalf of the 1890 Leas lift step lift carriage restoration appeal)
