Local commuters freezing four hours

The five o'clock commuter service to London out of Dover Priory and Folkestone came to an abrupt halt near Sandling station due to a frozen rail.

Commuters were stuck for 4 hours on the frozen train which bought rush-hour misery to hundreds of commuters as it blocked the main route from the Kent coast up to London today (25 January).

Two trains tried to move the frozen train but were unsuccessful, forcing the cancellation of all main line commuter services from the coast to Ashford, Tonbridge and London.

Network Rail admitted that some trains were hit by "poor rail conditions", but said about 70% of services were on time.

Most of the disruption was on trains to and from Folkestone, Dover and Ashford.

Around two inches of snow fell in East Kent and road services became increasingly treacherous because of ice, but the fall was actually less than predicted.
