Fast ferry moves into Hoverport

Speedferries' services are transferring from Dover's Eastern docks to the former base of Hoverspeed in the Western Docks.

Dover Harbour Board struck the deal with SpeedFerries over the use of the site, early this week.

The agreement gives the company, which has operated the Dover to Boulogne services since 2004, exclusive use of the berth, check-in area and office space.

The SpeedOne craft is expected to move to the former Hoverport shortly.

The whole of the western docks has been earmarked for a huge expansion by Dover Harbour Board, which aims to create four new berths, a new marina and a surrounding development of shops, restaurants and a hotel.

Because of these plans, SpeedFerries' contract will run until December 2010, although it is thought work could already be under way by then.
