A Shepway TV antiques expert is to be tried by a jury over an allegation he stole two pictures worth thousands from an OAP.

Folkestone magistrates told Bargain Hunt star Michael Hogben that the case was too serious to be dealt with by JPs.

Hogben, 54, from Hythe, is accused of taking the two paintings from the woman's home "to have them valued" and not returning them.

He denies theft and was released on bail.

His trial is due to begin at Canterbury crown court in March.

Hogben, is a close friend of fellow antiques expert David Dickinson and comic Vic Reeves was best man at his wedding.
