All Shepway and Dover secondary schools are to be either rebuilt or substantially re-designed under Kent's radical Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

An additional £1 billion funding provided by the Department for Education and Skills and Partnerships for Schools is in the pipeline for the scheme, which sets out to transform all secondary school buildings in the county.

KCC Leader Paul Carter explained how the programme is designed to bring the schools into the 21st century through innovative design and new technology.

He said: "It is not often we get the chance to bring our entire school stock up to date.

"This funding now means schools in Dover, Shepway and Swale will also have the go ahead to begin planning."

Project Director for the programme Grahame Ward said: "All of the secondary schools in Kent will either be re-built or substantially re-modelled and will also benefit from new ICT.

"This is an amazing opportunity to ensure that our schools are properly designed to meet the needs of 21st century learners, their families and the wider community."

Well any extra money to improve the decrepit schools our children are taught in, is most welcome, but where exactly is the money coming from?
These partnerships wont be solely about providing a more suitable place for children's education. What is in it for them ? Are these partners , multi-national fast food chains, that will expect advertising unhealthy eating in schools on posters and sponsorship deals.
They usually expect their partners in this case KCC to also put money in, just where has the money miraculously been found to fund such a project by the KCC, and what if any, other services will be have to cut or done away with altogether! Or is this the 'smokescreen' to cover up forthcoming beyond inflation council tax increases!
Before we start to get to carried away , we should know the full facts of who is involved and where this money is coming from.
As my old granny always used to say, 'you don't get 'owt for nowt' I may sound some what cynical, but in my experience I have found when dealing with councils government bodies or politicians , it is the best course until you know otherwise.
Regards Algernon
