A six-year old English Springer Spaniel who worked for HM Customs in Dover is retiring after a career of sniffing out drugs and over £3m in cash.

Polly the detector dog was one of the most successful members of HM Revenue & Customs' Frontiers team.

The six-year old English Springer Spaniel was rescued from an animal shelter in 2001 and trained for a career policing the nation's borders.

During her five-year career with HMRC, Polly has sniffed out more than £3million in cash, 540kgs of cannabis, 68kgs of ecstasy and almost 500gms of amphetamine.

She retires on Thursday (18 January).
