SHAME ON YOU MS. CAREY!

Dear Ed,

I yesterday attended the SOAB meeting o­n the proposed closure of Selsted School.  The other schools also being looked at in the meeting had local representatives giving passionate and informed arguments to save their schools.

Why did Susan Carey feel unable to do the same for her local constituents?  She read letters that she had received from parents, which the panel had undoubtedly received already.

Why did she not even mention the new houses being built?

Why did she not clarify that KCC would have to repay over half a million pounds for the new sports hall?

Why did she not explain that the PAN number of admissions was increased o­nly recently to accommodate extra children before the Churchill School was opened?

Why did she not explain that the high surplus capacity was in fact o­nly 35 children - a mere drop in Kent's huge ocean.

Why did she not correct SOAB members who expressed the view that it was not ideal children travelling half an hour along country lanes to get to school.  I wonder do these board members even know where Hawkinge is?  It takes 5 minutes along a main road - unlike the other church schools o­n offer.

It was most disappointing that our local representative gave such a negative opinion.
