70 YEAR-OLD WOMAN DIES IN FIRE

A 70-year-old disabled woman has died in a house fire in Folkestone on Friday night (8/9 September).

The woman's 65-year-old husband banged on neighbours' doors for help when she became trapped in a bedroom of the detached home in Turketel Road.

He was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford suffering from burns and the effects of smoke inhalation.

A neighbour who tried to save her was unable to get through the flames.

Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus spent almost two hours fighting the fire which started in an upstairs bedroom.
