HAWKINGE AND IT'S FUTURE

By Nick B

Towards a coherent future for our community

So much has been written in this excellent forum that I would like to add a few points.

I write as someone who was born in Folkestone and brought up, first in Guildhall Street, and later in the now demolished road called Danton Pinch - just along from Peene.

We settled in Hawkinge just over 6 years ago and viewed it as a community which has great potential, provided certain positive approaches are followed.

There are a whole range of issues going on at the moment from Community Centre, Village Hall, Leisuredrome, Doctor's Surgery, development land and so on. What is needed is an overall strategic plan for the Village which is coherent, achievable and most importantly is for the overall good of the residents here now.

I could write a thesis on the subject but, for everyone's sake I won't. I am left asking whether there is no single body which could oversee the development of the Village.

If not, surely one should be created which is based in Hawkinge, for Hawkinge and for the future of us and our children - it is surely that important!

Any evidence of existence of Danton Pinch?
by Piers Edwards
on Aug 24, 2009

I was born at No 2 Danton Pinch back in 1947 and am desperate to find a photograph of the small group of houses. I visited the location just two weeks ago and found just the remnants of Danton Lane. Can anyone help?

The channel tunnel seems to have removed all evidence of the existence of Danton Pinch. I had hoped to find perhaps just the foundations or some remnant from the distant past but it was not to be. Any memories of this lost location would also be welcome.

Regards,

Piers Edwards
