COUNCIL OFFERS LIFELINE TO COMMUNITY CENTRE

No Hawkinge Community Centre trustees turned up for tonight's Extraordinary Parish Council  meeting (30 August) to hear councillors respond to the damning report on the Centre.

Councillors agreed that the objective of the meeting was not to attribute blame, but  to do all they could to keep the Centre open.

They agreed to offer a grant of £5,000 for 3 months to allow it to continue operating, in order that a breathing space could be created whilst further funding is considered.

The offer is on the understanding that the Community Centre allow the Parish Council to become fully involved as custodian trustees and officially represented in all future meetings.

It was proposed that Cllr Dave Callahan, Cllr Peter Smith and Cllr Kevin Avery would liaise with the Centre trustees and report back to the Parish Council regularly over matters of revenue funding.

The full proposals will be delivered to Community Centre Chairman, Hawkinge Parish councillor John Heasman and a reply will be requested within 7 days.
