Councillors should be told where the buck stops

COUNCILLOR SHOULD BE TOLD WHERE THE BUCK STOPS

Dear Ed.

I read with some amusement this week the articles in the local press about councillors cleaning Folkestone's streets.

Street cleaning is simply Shepway District Council's responsibility, and yet I noted six District Councillors (Cufley, Beaumont, Bunting, Martin, Gane and Andrews) on parade that don't seem to grasp the the fact that they are Shepway District Council, and no one is to blame other than themselves.

This is all the more poignant because in Cllr.Cufley's case, she is a member of the Con/People First Cabinet currently running Shepway which has all the executive powers necessary to deal with the problem.

Whatever happened to collective Cabinet responsibility?

I do hope that the current Leader of Shepway DC, (Cllr. R. Bliss), has the resolve to remind Cllr.Cufley that the Cabinet is where the buck stops.
