COUNCIL TO FIGHT CHURCH PROPOSALS

Church authorities responsible for St. Peter's Church in Swingfield  have submitted a Draft Redundancy Scheme*, about the granting of a 125 year lease to a private purchaser. (*The scheme sets out the leasing and planning arrangements for the property.)

The draft of the scheme would allow cars to use the church path and the path across the village green, as well as permitting the annexation of the north-west corner of the churchyard.

The Parish council has written to the church authorities detailing its specific objections to the scheme.

Chairman of Swingfield Parish Council Cllr. Colin Tearle will be travelling to London in October for a meeting with the Redundant Churches Committee to explain the Council's opposition to the scheme and outline their own position.
