COMMUNITY CENTRE CASH CRISIS

It is business as usual, but time is now running out for the Hawkinge Community Centre if the financial crisis dogging the village's £2million community building cannot be resolved quickly.

At the latest in a series of meetings held on Monday (14 August) trustees from the Community Centre met with representatives from Hawkinge Parish Council, the Hawkinge Partnership, Shepway District Council, CARE Kent and the Department for Community and Local Government (DCLG) to try and find a way forward out of the current financial problems at the Centre.

Colin Franks, the Neighbourhood Renewal Officer from the DCLG produced a report on the Centre for discussion before the final draft is made public next Wednesday (23 August).

A reliable source has told the Gazette, the Parish Council will be holding an extraordinary meeting at the beginning of September when councillors will have to decide whether or not to back the proposals. Our source was hopeful that the crisis could be resolved by the middle of September.

The Community Centre has yet to hold its Annual General Meeting, which was due in May, and rumours over the financial standing of the Centre have been gaining strength in the village.
