ARMED POLICE TO STAY AT CHANNEL PORTS

Armed police will continue to be stationed at the Channel ports despite the official threat level reduction from critical to severe announced by Home Secretary John Reid today (14 August).

Kent Police said today they would be maintaining an "increased visible presence" at key sites including the Channel ports and Eurotunnel, Ashford International Station and Kent International  Airport at Manston.

Armed officers were posted at key sites last week when an alleged airline bomb plot was revealed.
