LUCKY 13 FOR PETER

Peter Jurzynski has done it again. The 55-year-old American who lives in Naugatuck, Connecticut but spends each summer in Folkestone training for his annual swim, has just completed his 13th successful crossing of the English Channel.

He said the swim was "very intense."

The crossing from Shakespeare Beach in Dover to Sangatte in France took 16 hours and 43 minutes.

His best time across the Channel was 12 hours, 7 minutes on his first try in 1987.

Last year he set the record for the American with the most crossings.

Jurzynski is a former teacher. He lost a bid for mayor in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1985, and took up swimming when his political career ended.
