PC TREVOR SETS UP LOCAL SOCCER CHALLENGE

A neighbourhood police officer from Hawkinge has organised a football event for young people, after they complained there was nowhere for them to play.

PC Trevor Moody managed to get funding from the Hawkinge Partnership for two 5-a-side goal posts for young people in the village to use.

He has teamed up with the Kent Community Wardens to organise the Hawkinge Community Challenge Cup, which is taking place o­n Thursday 27 July in a field off Blenheim Drive.

Teams of children aged between 12 and 14 from Hawkinge, Capel, Etchinghill and Lyminge will be playing against each other for the cup.

They will also be playing against a team of police officers from Folkestone Police Station, after a young lad from Hawkinge laid down the challenge to PC Moody to enter a team.

The Challenge Cup, which is being provided by Kent Police, will be presented to the winning team at around 3 pm, by Chief Superintendent Steve Harris, the Area Commander of South Kent Police.

The local LIDL supermarket is sponsoring the event by providing soft drinks and fruit.

PC Moody said:  “We’ve had a lot of support so far and we’re hoping for this to become an annual event.”
