I must confess to be a little confused by this.

This is the second time that this story has made your headlines, so I can only guess that Kent Police are still searching for "empty buildings".

Do we ever see similar articles whereby HM armed forces request the use of our disused buildings to carry out similar exercises?

I certainly don't recall any seeing any. The MOD must be o­ne of the biggest landowners in the UK, with redundant buildings a plenty. I'm pretty sure that they could accommodate the needs of Kent Police.
 
I'm sure a little liaising between the services would keep everyone happy and maybe provide a little more resource to our ever receding Thin Blue Line.
