CHARIVARI HARRY IS A BIG HIT

Hawkinge Harry, the village's 15 foot high giant was cheered as he led the Charivari parade through Folkestone on Saturday (15 July).

Harry, who together with four giants from East Kent and two from France danced to the music of drum bands as they made their way passed cheering crowds.

Parish Council Chairman David Callahan, Cllrs Kevin Avery and Cyril Trice and Giant co-rdinator David Godfrey were instrumental in making Harry's first outing outside the village such a huge success.

He is now booked to visit New Romney, Herne Bay, Sandwich and Canterbury.

"After the parade, we have had more offers of help," said David Godfrey.

"It has been a great success and the crowds were very enthusiastic."

David Callahan described the event as "marvellous".

"We are hoping to bring the other East Kent Giants to the Hawkinge Fun Day in September, when villagers will be able to see them," he said.

If you would like to get involved, please ring David Godfrey 01303 891586, he would love to hear from you.
