FRIENDS' PLAN TO SAVE CHURCH REJECTED

By Colin Tearle

The Redundant Churches Uses Committee have recently written to the Friends of St. Peter's church to finally reject their proposals to develop the building as a community and visitor centre.

In the letter it outlined the business case for turning down their offer saying, `it was questionable whether the revenue arising from such a use would be able to sustain the building in the long term`.

The Diocesan Board of finance have received a proposal to convert the building into a residence and felt strongly that this was the only way forward in the long term, to provide as far as possible for the future of this Grade 1 church.
