EXTREME SURFER HAMILTON PADDLES THE CHANNEL STANDING UP

Extreme surfer Laird Hamilton is known across the world for conquering the world's biggest waves, but has now broken new ground by peddling and paddling 265 miles from London to Paris in 2 days.

Hamilton braved stormy conditions paddling across the 22 mile wide English Channel on his stand-up paddle surfboard.

Six hours later, he made it, with a bike ride to Paris all that stood between him and his goal.

He always wanted to make the treacherous trip, but had extra incentive to raise money and awareness for autistic children.

Donations will go toward a project called "Beautiful Son".

A film about healing autism is being directed by the surfer's friend, cinematographer Don King, who has an autistic son. 

Now that Hamilton reached Paris, he looks forward to returning home to Maui to think of his next big challenge.
