VILLAGE TO FOOT BILL FOR NEW PATHWAY

As predicted in the Hawkinge Gazette last week, parish councillors have indeed voted to site a fenced path from the Community Centre along the tree line at the rear of the village hall to the existing path alongside the hall.

The decision made at Wednesday's extraordinary meeting (28 June) goes against the recommendations of an independent report called for by councillors.

We have been told the work will be going out to tender shortly.

There will be no provision for cycles and the existing cycle track will terminate at the village hall car park. A gate from the path alongside the hall will take pedestrians into the community centre car park.

Although the recommended path was already budgetted for with money allocated by the developers, Hawkinge parishioners will have to foot the bill for the parish council decision to go against the recommendations in the report.
