SPECULATION ENDS AS MAYFLY RETURNS TO HAWKINGE

Months of speculation surrounding the new pub in Hawkinge have finally come to an end with the arrival on site of managers Matthew Pedley and his partner, Elly Budworth.

Mr Pedley, who previously managed a pub in North Oxford, said this week: "I've been hearing all sorts of rumours since I arrived that we're going to be a Brewer's Fayre, Toby Carvery or Harvester but we're actually none of those - we're a Boston Local family and community pub

"We offer a friendly atmopsphere, comfortable surroundings, good beers and great food.

"We're awaiting planning permission for a children's play area and plan on running regular quiz nights and charity events. There's even the possibility of a pub football team if the interest's there!"

"We're really keen to get involved with community life and if there's anything that people would like to see regarding events and activities at the pub then we'll certainly look into it."

The new pub boasts a spacious interior divided into several distinct areas. There's a large family dining area that opens onto the heated patio and a small room off it that can screened off for groups and parties that Matthew jokingly calls the Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen room on account of it's rather floral wallpaper.

There's also a comfortable lounging area furnished with leather sofas and captain's chairs where customers can relax before or after a meal or simply enjoy a coffee whilst they read the papers.

Next to that is the main bar area and finally, at the far end of the building, is a small area for smokers and a splendid 42" plasma screen TV.

The pub, which opens at 11am on July 10th, offers a wide variety of food at superb prices, daily roasts and a Curry Club scheme which offers one free curry for every five purchased.

Mr Pedley said: "This is the first pub that Pathfinder have opened in this part of the country and Elly and I are extremely pleased to be part of this exciting new venture.

"We realise that, for many people, Hawkinge will always be remembered for the airfield and the vital role it played in the last war and we respect that and that is why we chose the name The Mayfly to honour the memory of this place.

"If anyone has pictures or other information about The Mayfly that we can use in the pub then we would love to hear from them."
