THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED

The Leas Bandstand built in 1895 was dismantled this week but it is hoped it will be back, fully restored by Christmas.

The work will be undertaken by Britannia, a specialist architectural metalwork and restoration company based in Alton, Hampshire and is expected to take up to six months to complete.

Cllr Robert Bliss, Leader of Shepway Council, watched the bandstand being dismantled .

“It’s wonderful that this restoration work is taking place. I will be following its progress with great interest and I am looking forward to the return of one of Folkestone’s favourite features later this year,â€? he said.
