More intrigue than Big Brother...

If you serve as a councillor in local government beware, the Standards Board for England is in place ready to investigate any complaints made against you. They are responsible for promoting high ethical standards and investigating allegations that members' behaviour may have fallen short of the required standards. So whether you are the Mayor of London "Red" Ken Livingstone or a Hawkinge Parish Councillor, there is always someone ready to shop you.  I have just been told that the current Leader of Shepway District Council has himself been reported to the Board. So if you  thought it was a good idea to serve your community, my advice is to keep looking over your shoulder, there's more intrigue on your doorstep than in TV's Big Brother.

The Hawkinge white elephant commonly known as the Community Centre has still not announced the date of its 2006 AGM. It should have been in May or as it says in their constitution, as near to that date as possible. Even announcing it today and informing all members, which means telling the whole village, will put it into July. Anyone wishing to put themselves up to join the executive committee will need to put their names forward at least two weeks before the meeting. Good luck!
