MEETING CALLED OVER HAZARDOUS CAR PARK AND FOOTPATH REPORT

Following almost a year of wrangling by the Parish Council over the Hawkinge Village Hall car park and footpath, Council Chairman Cllr. David Callahan is calling an extraordinary meeting to discuss a report commissioned by the council.

The Parish Council have been unable to come to a decision  and Cllr. Callahan is determined to force councillors to make a decision.

The report by Explorer Associates Limited from Cheriton favours the view that the footpath should continue from the Community Centre, along the hedgerow to Canterbury Road.

The report describes the  village hall car park surface as a hazard and recommends the filling of pot holes as soon as possible. It continues saying that at some point consideration will be required regarding the laying of a new surface.

Explorer Associates reasons for the footpath route include the greater sense of personal safety for pedestrians when walking along the path. The present footpath  runs between the Village hall and a High wooden fence. There is still no lighting  along the footpath as the Parish Council and Village Hall Committee have never been unable to resolve the issue between themselves.

The existing footpath currently exits down a steep ramp o­nto the Community Centre Car Park.
