HAWKINGE AND DISTRICT GARDENER’S SOCIETY

On Wednesday 7th June members of the Hawkinge and District Gardener’s Club spent a most enjoyable evening at Wyckhurst, Aldington. 

The 16th century cottage, which is not open to the public, is set in approximately 1 acre of cottage garden with unusual topiary and extensive views across Romney Marsh.  The owners Mr and Mrs Older who have lived at Wyckhurst for more than 25 years were more than happy to discuss the history of the garden and provided excellent refreshments.

The gardening society have recently taken part in the Adopt a Veg scheme and with all members having the opportunity to take part have voted and adopted the Kent Blue Pea for a year.  The name of Hawkinge and District Gardener’s Society will be entered into the Adopt a Vegetable commemorative books which will be kept for posterity and put o­n show at Ryton Organic Gardens.

The next club evening will be o­n Wednesday 5th July with speaker Mr Bob Ogley giving a talk entitled ‘Biggin o­n the Bump’, and o­n Sunday 23rd July we will have our Annual Summer Show at 2.30pm in the village hall, amongst the many entries will be vegetables, fruits, pot plants and flowers, home produce and floral arrangements.

Meetings are held o­n the 1st Wednesday of the month at Hawkinge Village Hall at 7.30pm
