I REMAIN CYNICAL ABOUT THE RESPONSES TO A CRIME REPORT

Dear Ed, and Chris Ashman,

Re: Help reduce crime- don't just whinge about it

I have tried reporting crime and that is why I remain cynical about the responses to a crime report. On one occasion it took more than a fortnight to get a reply, from an answer machine, to a crime that had just taken place (not 999 since that is supposedly for a crime in progress).

What good is that?  The criminals must be laughing their heads off!

When  you do use the 999 service, I have tried believe me, there are a lot of silly questions to go through before any action takes place; for example "How do you know that this lump of concrete has been thrown through your window?" - My God - Aren't I looking at a lump of concrete in my house and isn't there broken glass lying all around it? - Heaven help us all!

As ever,

Lazarus
