LATE CABINET MEMBER MISSES MP AT SCHOOL VISIT
Kent County Council (KCC) Cabinet member Cllr. John Simmonds arrived late for his visit to Selsted School yesterday (26 May) and narrowly missed MP Michael Howard, who had to leave after arriving for the visit some forty five minutes earlier.
Speaking to Swingfield Parish Council Chairman Cllr. Colin Tearle and staff at the school, Michael Howard made no secret of the fact he supports the fight to keep the school open.
During his visit Mr Howard talked with anxious parents and teachers who are all fighting to keep the school open.
Representing KCC at the visit, County Councillor and Lead Member for Education Cllr. Susan Carey and fellow Schools Organisation Advisory Board (SOAB) member Cllr. Alan Poole with Cabinet Member, jointly responsible for education and school improvement, Cllr. John Simmonds, spent two hours talking with staff and Swingfield Parish Council Chairman Colin Tearle at the school.
The public meeting arranged by Kent County Council (KCC) to discuss the possible closure of Selsted school has been delayed.
It was scheduled for the14 June but KCC were unable to gather all core members of their panel for the original date and it will now take place 2 weeks later at 7.00pm on Wednesday 28 June at the Selsted Community Hall.
