Folkestone Seafront Casino bid thrown out

SEAFRONT CASINO BID THROWN OUT

Hopes of helping to regenerate the town were dashed this week after Folkestone's bid to build a casino on the seafront was thrown out.

Shepway District Council has been notified by the Casino Advisory Panel that their proposal to allow a casino at Folkestone Seafront has been unsuccessful.

The Panel received 67 proposals from local authorities for just eight large and eight small casinos. After examination of the proposals to ensure they met the set criteria and Government policy, this number has now been whittled down to 31.

Shepway Cabinet member for regeneration Cllr Linda Cufley said: â€œWe are very disappointed with the news. It could have helped in regenerating and revitalizing the town but we were up against some stiff competition.â€?

The Council will be discussing the outcome with the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
