American long distance swimmer Peter Jurzynski, 54, who regularly trains in Folkestone, has joined the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame.

Peter, who is well known in the town, can often be seen in the summer months, training between Folkestone and Sandgate beach.

He is from Naugatuck, Massachusetts  and was selected to join the Hall of Fame  for his American record number of  Channel swims.

Peter Jurzynski has made 16 attempts at the English Channel, with 12 successes to date. He has "booked" again for July of this year and plans at least one attempt per year for as long as he is able.

Last year, he established the personal record of completing the greatest number of crossings by an American male.

He trains in Boston Harbour, at Post University in Waterbury during the winter, and in Folkestone during the summer.
