THREE TIMES A CHAIRMAN

Colin Tearle with his constant companion Max

Densole development saviour Colin Tearle has been elected Chairman of Swingfield Parish Council for the third time.

In 2000 he stood down due to council commitments on Shepway District Council, although he still remained a member of the parish council.

At their monthly meeting on Tuesday (31 January) Cllr Tearle was elected unopposed following the resignation of Cllr Roger Curd in November 2005, who had held the office for 5½ years.

Mr Tearle's knowledge and understanding of planning procedures proved invaluable in steering the opposition to the housing development proposed for Black Horse Meadow to a successful conclusion. The plans were thrown out by the district council and an order was placed on the land to prevent further development.

Conservative party member Colin served on Shepway District Council for 4 years between 1999 and 2003 and is a member of the Kent Association of Parish Councils (KAPC). He is also on the KAPC/Shepway District Council Joint Consultative Committee and has been elected to the county executive of the KAPC.

As well as his council duties, Cllr Tearle is heavily involved in building links with Swingfield's twin village Aviron in Normandy, France in his rôle as Chairman of the Swingfield Twinning Association.

Mr Tearle who is a farmer was born in Denton and has lived in Shepway all his life.
