MAN DROWNS AFTER SLIPPING INTO DITCH

A driver who stopped to go the toilet near the side of the road on Romney Marsh is thought to have slipped into a drainage ditch and drowned.

The 33-year-old victim from Seaford, was driving home from Kent along the A259 in the early hours of Monday morning when he stopped to relieve himself.

He parked beside the road at around 3am and walked off to find a discreet place. When he failed to return to the car, his two women passengers began calling for him.

A passing motorist stopped and raised the alarm. Two police officers searching the area spotted the man's body at 4.30am in a ditch which runs alongside the A259 near Rye.
