BIRD FLU PLANES KEEP WATCH OVER SHEPWAY

Areas of Shepway which are visited by migrating birds are being watched closely from the skies.

It was revealed that spotter planes are flying over remote areas looking for dead birds in the fight against an avian flu outbreak in the UK.

They are examining areas populated by migrating birds, such as Romney Marsh which is difficult to scour on the ground,  together with areas on the north west coast of the country at  Morecambe Bay and the Mersey estuary.

Fears for the South East were heightened after France found the H5N1 virus at an indoor turkey farm near Lyon, just 300 miles from Britain.
