1000 YEARS OF MILITARY HISTORY COMES TO AN END

Cllr Pat Heath, Chairman of Dover District Council

Dover is preparing to say goodbye to the 1st Battalion the Parachute Regiment on Friday (10 March). The event marks an end to more than a thousand years of recorded military history in the town.

A special parade through Dover, with sixty soldiers from 1st Battalion the Parachute Regiment, led by the Parachute Regiment Band and including a convoy of army vehicles willl gather at the Market Square process to the Town Hall for about 11.45am. At around 11.50am, a farewell salute will be taken by the Chairman of Dover District Council, Cllr Pat Heath, and the Commander of 2 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier James Plastow. The event can be viewed by the public along the route or at the Town Hall.

Cllr Pat Heath, Chairman of Dover District Council said: 'This is a very significant occasion which marks an end to over a thousand years of recorded military history in Dover. We hope as many people as possible will come along to mark this event and join us in saying farewell to the Parachute Regiment who have played such an important part in the life of the town.'
